The Second Phase of the 2018 SunRise School Tour

 

Report on the Activities of the SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation for June, 2018.

The SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation carried out the second phase of the 2018 SunRise School tour in the month of June. A total of four (4) schools were visited.

1.            DANIEST HIGH SCHOOL

The SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation held a two-day outreach to Daniest High School, Calabar on the 11th and 12th of June, 2018.

 

On the first day, a total of one-hundred and eight (108) Reach4Life Bibles were distributed to the students which consisted of both males and females. The session started with a brief introduction of The organisation by the Programs Assistant - Miss Mercy Esang. After which the National anthem was sung and the founder and Executive Director of The SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation – Mr. Chibuzor Agomuoh took the stage.

   

    

He introduced the Reach4Life Bibles to the students, and starting with page three, he read the words written in blue and engaged the students by asking them to read the words in red. Using the “How to use this book” subtitle, he explained explicitly how to use the Reach4Life Bible. He then explored pages 12 to 19 which spoke about “Sex is everywhere’ and engaged the students in reading some of the excuses young people give for engaging in illicit sex.

Finally, he led the Students to pray and a carton of the Treasure Hunt Bible was donated to the school Library.

On the second day, Victory Ojating, a volunteer with The SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation led the opening session which consisted of Introductions, National Anthem and Prayer, after which the Programmes Assistant - Miss Mercy Esang asked the students to raise their Bibles, to confirm that they still had them. 

She went on to share “The Story” with the students; this can be found on pages 663 through 685 of the Reach4Life Bible.

The outreach ended in prayers.

    

 

2.            SPECIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL

On the 14th of June, The SunRise Youth Intervention Organisation embarked on an outreach to Special Secondary School, a school for kids with speaking and hearing impairment. Miss Offiong Akpabio - Founder of Today’s Adolescents and Young People’s Initiative (TAYPI) spoke to the students about sexual harassment and encouraged them to speak up if ever they found themselves in that position.

Mr. Chibuzor Agomuoh then anchored a session with the students, using the Reach4Life Bible he explained to them how to use the Bible and discussed “Sex is everywhere” section of the Bible. The students participated, giving intelligent responses to the excuses young people give for engaging in early sex; while each student communicated using the sign language, the interpreter communicated in words.

The session came to a close with prayers. A total of sixty-sex (66) Reach4Life Bibles were distributed and a carton of Treasure Hunt Bible, containing twenty-one (21) copies were donated to the school library for easy access by every student of the school.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3.            WEST AFRICAN PEOPLE’S INSTITUTE (WAPI)

The third school visited was the West African People’s Institute, Calabar. A total of one hundred and fifty (150) Reach4Life Bibles were given to the students. Mr. Chibuzor Agomuoh explored “Sex is everywhere” with the Students and taught them how to use the book.

 

The students participated, giving intelligent responses to the excuses for engaging in sexual practices before time. He then led the students to pray and the outreach came to a close.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.            GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL STATEHOUSING

On Wednesday, 20th June, 2018 Government Secondary School State Hosing, Calabar was Visited. A total of one-hundred and eight (108) Reach4Life Bibles were distributed to the Students.

 

Covenant Nsa, an alumni of the SunRise Academy for Young Leaders, led the opening sessions of prayers and National Anthem. Miss Mercy Esang anchored the Reach4Life session.

 

She taught the students how to use the Bible and engaged the students on discussions from “Sex is everywhere” section of the Bible. The session ended in prayers.

 

Twenty-one (21) copies of the Treasure Hunt Bible were donated to the school Library.

 

In July, publicity for the August SunRise Academy for Young Leaders will commence in full.
