Reality TV Star, Kim Kardashian, recently was on the set of “The View” to talk about the new season of her family’s reality show- “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” and Kanye West’s Sunday Services.
The fascinating thing about this couple is that years back many people never fancied the idea of taking them seriously. The internet is a flowing river of news content about Kanye West’s presumed overblown ego and Kim Kardashian’s “vain obsession” about beauty and body image.
For most people, never in their wildest imagination did they ever think that Kim would be seated on live television talking about Kanye West’s Sunday Services which he holds mostly in Calabasas, and his new found love for Jesus Christ as a born again believer. It might interest you to know that he is expected to release a new album titled- JESUS IS KING.
It is admirable that Kim is deliberately making an effort to transform her reputation from that of a social media/reality TV star known for lewdness and raunchiness to that of a wife and mother of four children who is currently studying law and is actively fighting for civic causes; one of which is her push for prison reforms as a regular visitor to the White House advocating for policy change in that regard which is brave and admirable.
Just as many are excited about Kim and Kanye’s “new breath of spiritual fresh air”, some have chosen to take what they hear from them with a pinch of salt. Several persons feel that Kanye West is using the Church and Christianity as a facade to draw more attention to himself just like several other pop artiste and those in Hollywood have done to appeal to individuals who identify as Christians, especially those who love the 'Church culture' but have no real relationship with the Word of God [God’s verbal/written thoughts which is able to transform an individual into the image and likeness of Christ, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, for correction and instruction in righteousness].
There seems to be a reason to consider the doubts of many rather than write them off as “high-felutant” or “judgmental”. For example, while speaking to the women on The View about her approval of Kanye’s new spiritual experience, she also talked about her love for mediums.
Christians who study the Bible know that spiritual engagement with mediums is dangerous and forbidden by God
“Do not turn to mediums or spiritualists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”
- Leviticus 19:31
“And when they say to you, “Inquire or the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?
- Isaiah 8:19
“And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.”
Christians who have stayed long enough in God’s Word who know a lot about discipleship would agree that it is dangerous for a baby Christian to launch directly into large scale leadership were they have to influence the views of millions regarding the Bible. They are prone to error and heresy especially if they don’t have well-rounded guidance from Christians who have a good experiential knowledge of the Bible and the Spirit of God.
While we watch Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on their exciting spiritual journey, we wait to see them bear fruits of righteousness and holiness. And while we wait to see them bear this fruits to the glory of God, we have to pray for them, encourage and strengthen them to seek God the more.
Many of us were once like them until the saving grace of Jesus Christ met us and turned our lives around giving us a sense of joy and fulfillment. Keep praying for them and every Christian around you who is still budding in their spiritual development.
